2 Reviews on “Bassin Pirogue”
The Pirogue Basin is a small lagoon that extends from the long and beautiful black sand beach of Etang-Salé, which opens to the open sea. Located at the southernmost end of the main beach, the Pirogue Basin and its lagoon are shielded by a coral barrier. This is also where the fishing and recreational port of the town of Étang-Salé is located.
The Pirogue Basin is protected and is part of the Marine Nature Reserve established in 2007.
Between the Pirogue Basin beach and Etang-Salé beach, there is a lifeguard station as well as restrooms and showers.
The location is ideal for swimming and observing marine life (fish, octopuses, eels, rays, etc.) and corals. Exercise caution: don’t swim if the water isn’t clear and the sea isn’t calm, as sharks have been spotted near the basin.
