Peter Island, an island in the BVI

A rumour says that Deadman’s Bay got its name after Blackbeard marooned a group of unruly crew members, leaving them here to meet their fate. In the 18th century, the British used the island as a strategic outpost during their skirmishes in the Caribbean, particularly during conflicts with the French and Dutch. Today, Peter Island is privately owned, and best known for its upscale resort. Surrounding reefs are a hot spot for snorkelers and divers with the nearby Wreck of the Rhone, a British mail ship that went down in a hurricane in 1867.
