The island’s name, derived from the Arawakan term for “turtle,” hints at its indigenous past, where the Carib people lived long before the arrival of the British and French. The club, with its colonial-inspired architecture and sprawling golf course, has been designed by the legendary Jim Fazio. There’s also the Turtle Sanctuary, a nod to the island’s ancient namesake, where conservation efforts to protect the local sea turtle population take center stage.
