Marie-Galante

Marie-Galante is often referred to as the “Island of a Hundred Mills” due to the large number of old windmills that once dotted the landscape. These windmills were essential for processing sugarcane, and their presence today serves as a reminder of the island’s past agricultural importance. Discover its rich rum heritage, the island is home to some of the Caribbean’s most celebrated rum distilleries. A visit to these historic sites reveals the traditional methods of rum production, where centuries-old techniques are still in use. The process involves the same copper stills and wooden barrels that have been employed for generations.
