Arguably, the most breezy and pleasant port is Saint-Pierre, perfectly located right in the town center, bustling with lively day and night activities.
Access can be tricky, especially during strong swells. These swells crash in the passageway, reducing the water depth to 1.50m despite the renovations.

Anecdotes

Réunion island became a strategic stopover point on the route to the Indian subcontinent, crucial for refuelling and resupplying ships engaged in the spice trade. Find out more with our Réunion sailing guide. One of the island’s most popular story involves the legendary 19th-century shipwreck of the Saint Géran. This tragic event, immortalised in the famous novel “Paul et Virginie” by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre, has become a cornerstone of Réunion’s cultural identity. The tale of the shipwreck and the ensuing dramatic rescue captivated readers and remains a significant part of the island’s folklore. The volcanic terrain, with the imposing Piton de la Fournaise and the dramatic Cirque de Mafate, offer numerous trails for hikers.
